Catastrophizing/Awfulizing
Sometimes parents create a crisis over nothing. This term suggests that when we make everything worse than things really are we ‘awfulizing it or making it into a catastrophe. Example: No you can’t quit school, it will ruin your life not to get an education. It will certainly be the biggest mistake of your life to run off and marry a bum like Larry….a high school dropout.
